2025 Impact Report

Dear Friends,

In 2025, we witnessed achievement again and again. When barriers were removed and support was in place, participants took real risks, built resilience, achieved new goals and left seeing themselves differently. That shift in confidence, in self-perception, and in possibility transforms lives. That is why Waypoint exists.

In 2025, that impact included:

  • Graduating three Leaders in Training (LIT) cohorts, developing the next generation of inclusive outdoor leaders
  • Delivering high-challenge adaptive bike rides that expanded access and built confidence
  • Reaching the summit of Mt. Willard once again, proving what’s possible with the right support
  • Launching our Disability History Hike and new corporate team-building experiences to deepen inclusion beyond the trail

These programs work. And demand continues to grow.

Today, people with disabilities are facing challenges both new and old. Enforcement of legal protections is eroding, funding is being withheld, and healthcare costs are exponentially rising. Persistent systemic barriers stubbornly remain. These all combine to frustrate opportunity, access, inclusion, and ambition.

These realities make Waypoint’s mission more urgent than ever. In the face of obstacles, we are creating welcoming, adaptive spaces where people with disabilities can challenge themselves, discover new possibilities, and experience adventure on their own terms. Every program we run, every barrier we remove, moves us closer to a world where life is lived to the fullest in a fully accessible world.

Without sustained community investment, these transformative experiences simply wouldn’t exist. With your support, we can bring these life-changing experiences to more people and more places.

You can join us in simple, meaningful ways:

  • Invite someone new to a program or volunteer alongside you
  • Share our story on social media to inspire your network
  • Give what you can – Even small gifts fuel big adventures and big changes

Thank you for being part of this community. Thank you for believing in what’s possible. And thank you for moving forward with us, together we’re making adventure accessible for everyone.

Sincerely,

Waypoint creates welcoming spaces where people with disabilities can challenge themselves, discover new possibilities, and experience adventure on their own terms.

Every program we run, every barrier we remove, moves us closer to a world where life is lived to the fullest in a fully accessible, fully inclusive, and full of possibility world.

15–20% of Waypoint’s revenue comes from program fees. This means the rest must be raised through donations and grants to keep programs accessible to all. In 2025, individuals contributed 30% of our revenue and foundations 55%. Turmoil, uncertainty and shifting priorities in national philanthropy over the last year have created a critical need for additional support as Waypoint looks toward 2026. Your financial support is needed now more than ever.

What we need…

1. Invite someone new to a program or volunteer alongside you

2. Share our story on social media to inspire your network

3. Give what you can – even small gifts fuel big adventures

Thank you!

Participant Story

Everyone is on their own timeline. Patrick is a high school-aged student from Somerville Public Schools and has been participating in Waypoint programs for over 8 years. Through his school’s partnership with the Waypoint, Patrick has been exposed to rock-climbing, hiking, and kayaking multiple times per year, every year. He shows up for his programs with his classmates and often watches from the side. He is included, encouraged, and always welcomed, while Waypoint leaders patiently give Patrick the space to engage in his own time.

Until this year…

Kayaking clicked for Patrick in 2025. The sense of pride, success, and joy from our staff and his teachers in seeing Patrick happy and engaged in the experience was nearly overwhelming. His family is overjoyed. They said, “we’ve been searching for something for Patrick to do recreationally for years, and we finally found it with Waypoint.”

Everyone’s participation looks different. And everyone discovers their “I Can” moments at their own pace.

Sustained funding for long-term relationships with our school partners is essential. It is what’s needed for participants like Patrick and his family to experience the freedom and joy of new possibilities and to achieve lasting inclusion.

Program Partner

In Western North Carolina, tourism and outdoor recreation are the heartbeat of the region. When outdoor adventure is everywhere, not being able to participate can feel deeply isolating. When Waypoint Adventure launched in Black Mountain in 2023, Blue West Opportunities was one of the first social service agencies we invited into accessible adventure. Seeing Waypoint’s impact, they didn’t just say yes — they said, “Yes, and we want to do everything we possibly can.”

Thanks to our partnership with NC State Parks and the generosity of supporters like you, that commitment became reality. In 2025, we were able to offer discounted programming to Blue West residents, opening the door to consistent outdoor recreation, a sense of belonging, and the discovery of personal strengths and abilities. Your support is what makes accessible adventure possible for group-home residents and social service agency clients who would otherwise be left out — not just in North Carolina, but across the communities we serve throughout New England and beyond.

Watch the video to see Blue West Opportunities in action and discovering that “more people are adventurers than they think!”

Volunteer Story

Sam and Drew Levin joined our volunteer team in October ’23 and, since then, have volunteered a combined 33 times—some of those events were multi-day excursions! This duo is up for anything and engages effortlessly with each new person they meet. Waypoint Adventure is able to fulfill its mission of providing access to all because of the dedication of our volunteers. Sam and Drew are just one example of the many talented individuals who are essential to the success of our programs.

We asked Sam and Drew why they keep coming back. They shared, “Waypoint has always felt like more than just an organization to us; it feels like a family. From the staff and volunteers to the participants and their families, we’ve become part of an incredible community of like-minded, supportive people, committed to the same cause. Often, it feels like we as volunteers get just as much—if not more—out of the experience than the participants. Through Waypoint, we’ve gained new skills such as belaying, learned how to better support people with a wide range of disabilities, and explored recreational areas in our surrounding community we never knew existed. We feel deeply aligned with Waypoint’s mission and hope to continue volunteering as a family for years to come.”

A huge thanks to Sam and Drew for their continued dedication and for recruiting their new son, River, who joined his first Waypoint program at just 7 weeks old! #AdventureIsForEveryBody
